Date with Maxwell

It's my first day at the job on a full time, from Monday to Friday, eight in the morning to five in the afternoon. I’m so glad I do not need to have a ride or have to owe anyone an extra explanation as to why I do not need to answer my calls all the time, apparently my boss has made a webpage where I am shown as one of his five attorneys, which is really cool because I get to have more clients but oh my sugar daddy is this all overwhelming.

I shut off my cell when I am working at the moment I punch in and when I punch out I turn it on, not even in lunch like how I do with class. I do not want to lose my job because others have some stupid thing to say about others, the disco won’t go anywhere else, boys come and go.

The list can go long if I start to point them out, my newest client is an elderly who is fighting for custody because their son just murdered his baby momma and she refuses to give the child to the dad. Clearly, I am in her favor, after detailing the payment plan we agreed on a date to go to court after I read her file, and any files she had of her son’s actions.

It’s been six months since I started my job Maxwell left two weeks after I started my job, he apparently returns this time in a small rented apartment, I’m currently having a late snack with Jeny. Jeny Mole, my best friend from childhood finally decided to come out and have some girly time, when I see her I’m surprised at how hot she keeps herself, just last week I needed to lose twenty-five pounds because I was not fitting my clothes, need to keep myself well fitted, also my papers came out I passed with flying colors.

“Orlando will be here very soon but I do not want to bring him here so I will meet him at the disco since it's a Friday,” I tell Jeny who smiles at my conclusion, Orlando finally married the woman he was after, lucky him, finally a girl got him under her leash.

“Orlando got married? Good, hope she keeps him on his leash, the dog can be so difficult to handle, I never understood his addiction to sleeping around.” I laugh at her words, Jeny and Orlando are exes.

“I heard you have a kid?” I ask her as she sips her beer only for her to spit lit of it out.

“Me? No, I adopted but they were already older than me so they went on with their lives, Diva you almost made me chock on my beer here.” She starts to laugh as she starts to clean herself.

This is odd, I know she is lying because the last person to tell me she had a baby was her mom, her exact words before she died out of nowhere were how angry she was with her because she married someone she won’t say who, I have already asked her before and that she had a baby. Why is she lying to me, out of all our friends she should know not to lie to me.

“Since when did you become so responsible with your life? Diva Daph the highlight of any party is now the attorney at law with a strict schedule? That doesn’t sound like you one bit” Jeny says as I take a sip of my own.

“Well, this goes to show you and anyone that I am, more than just a pretty face,” I answer her with a smile as I take the second sip of my beer.

We stay like this for a bit, the bar we are at is right in front of the beach, so it's a pleasant breeze as we enjoy the music of rap in the small bar on our right, it's a calming night for a Friday. My cell rings and I answer it without looking at the ID, surprised at hearing it’s Max on the other line.

‘Hey Diva, how are you tonight?’ He says as I look to my lap and smile.

Max and I have not stopped texting, calling, he even has been helping my parents with the construction of their new home that is three floors, he has been nothing but a great guy to my family and me, started opening up a bit more to me as to how he sees me as more than his friend's sister, after that text I called him and we both laughed at how we clicked, I told him I found him cute after his confession and we have been growing slowly closer.

‘Just having a girl's night, how has it been Max?’ As soon as I say that Jeny gets up and takes her bag but before she does anything else she takes my cell to put it on mute.

“I gotta go home hun, I will see you some other night?” I nod and take my cell back as I unmute it she kisses my cheek and takes off, that was odd.

‘Did you hear me Daph?’ Max asks me and I shake my head to concentrate.

‘Sorry a friend of mine had to leave and she took my call to tell me, what were you saying?’ I ask him when I hear him sigh.

‘I was asking you if you wanted to go out to dinner, as in on a real adult date?’ He asks me and I l swear my eyes were about to pop from my face as soon as I heard him say he wants to date me out of nowhere

I mean yes we like each other but I never thought he would be as to the point of asking on an actual date, I’m dating my brother's friend, I should ask him if it’s a good idea maybe my gut feeling about him being strange is just a gut feeling. Hopefully, I am not overreacting.
