Chapter 7 The competition

Two years later after so much pain of her absence, soaking my bed with tears waiting for her. The OGSA were invited for a singing competition and we were nominated as one of the participant in ondo state. The competition involve all the thirty-six states in Nigeria.

we rehearsed so hard in the school and i skip most of my period in class. All the competitors were divided into several groups in which my school fell in the groups c. The first two schools in agroup of five will qualify to the next round.

The competition began after series of practice. We compete with the five schools in our group.

Unfortunately for me, though i was part of the people that are singing, i was not able to sing through out the group stage due to the types of songs they requested for wad not my place of speciality. Country songs , high life, gospel and all othere were the one's they asked for. I was just watching their performance throughout the group stage. We travelled to so many states like Abeokuta in ogun state, Ebute metta in lagos, and we went to kwara, ebonyi and jos to sing.

Fortunately for me, my school came second in the overall group stage result. As i could recall, it was a tight and strong competition then. We were able to enter the knock-off stage, to take place basely in Abuja. I was the one who sang for my school in our first fixturing in the knockout stage and we won. The school we fixtured with was knockedout immediately after been defeated. Everyone, including i personally was panicking that we might also be knocked out anytime.

Our next fixturing was to take place in the next week and that was the quarter final stage. So, i practiced even more than before due to the fact that most of the songs they requested for was inspirational and emotional songs which was the main theme of my songs....... Our next show, came and they requested for gospel songs. Our choir mistress picked ifeoluwa. He's my good friend and he is perfect and bettet than me in that aspect.

We won again and we were able to move to the semi final stage. Our choir mistress told us that the best singer will be given the chance to a big scholarship to any university of his or her choice and she want that person to be from our band. This made everyone practice more than before in the hotel we were lodged into.

I was not the one who sang at the semi final stage too. They asked for a gospel song and automatically, it was ifeoluwa that won the stage for us again. we were all happy that ifeoluwa will be the one to receive the title of the best singer award of the competition or me only if they requested for the song in my area of specialization...
