Chapter 18

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

I could still hear it. My senses completely filled as the sound shook my entire core. It was like the surprise you get from the first strike of lightning. That same jolt.

The image of that vein. The way it bounced while she spoke. The sound of the blood rushing through it with each thump.

And that scent.

That mind numbing scent. It smelled delicious. It was nothing I'd smelt before. I had imagined it before it could happen. My teeth sinking into the soft flesh, my hands holding her down as I inhaled the raw aroma of it all.

Had she not illustrated my fantasies what might have happened?

Then there was the question as to why she did not recognise me. I thought she had been a great actor or something when she gave me tea. Had she truly not looked up? No that made no sense. She saw my eyes.

I let out a sudden cry as I felt the immense burn of the sun. My time limit diminishing for the day.

"George!" I choked out, throat drying as the light seemed to ignite my insides.

"Your majesty!" I heard his voice.

"Shut the drapes! I can't handle the light anymore!" My legs gave out and I felt the cold floor beneath me. It didn't matter what I did I could not muster the strength to stand. That girl… what had she done to me?

I felt George lift me up, vision returning as I felt the coolness of darkness.

"What happened? Did you get attacked?" He asked and I shook my head as his voice began to give me a migraine.

"I- I- was craving it" I finally mustered as I sat on my desk chair.

"Craving?" I saw his worried face clearly in the dark, though he could probably only see darkness. The realisation so obvious on his face as he gasped, "blood? You finally had a craving?"

He blindly managed to skilfully locate the vials of blood from the Empire and placed them before me carefully. He then stood cautiously back.

"Stand further back. I do not trust myself like that" I ordered and he obeyed, breaking out in a cold sweat.

I lifted the vile uneasily. I did not enjoy that. I did not want to experience that again, but it I were to go berserk from the thirst then I must do this.

I pulled the lid, preparing to be overwhelmed by the scent.

I took a sniff.

Nothing.

There was no change.

No longing.

No desire.

And…

No hunger.
