Chapter 63

One of them stepped forward and I stepped back with a gulp, finding my insides quivering at the sight of his towering body. I blinked and in that moment he lurched forward, in his hand a sword swinging down towards me. I reacted faster than I thought was possible and defended with my dagger. He pushed down towards me and I saw another man approaching us from my peripherel vision, an axe gleaming in his hands.

If Lady Selvius was their main target I wouldn't have been able to push away from my attacker to dodge the axe attack. I couldn't even recover as another swung a bamboo stick my way and I barely dodged, trying to create distance as they neared. My breathing laboured and the dress I wore was proving to be difficult to move in.

"Lady Colter, behind you!" I caught the sight of Lady selvius' urgent face before pain rivetted throw my arm and an arrow stabbed the ground before me, warm blood poured from my arm as I whipped around to see another in the tree behind me, an arrow drawn across his bow. I stumbled back, clutching my arm as a sense of doom came over me.

This-This is impossible.

I tried to run to the side, but the sight of my reflection staring back at me from a long blade blocking my path stopped me and I gulped, tears crowding in my eyes as I realised I was truly gong to die.

No! I can still!-

I felt the hilt of the other man's axe on my back and froze, feeling warm breath on my neck.

"Who knew such a little girl would be so much trouble, bet she'd be fun to play with" I felt a hand run down my back and shivered, sweat building up on my forehead.

"We were told to dispose of her immediately" The one with sword had a young voice and bought the sword under my throat, pressing the cold metal to my skin and I leaned back, shutting my eyes tightly as tears streamed down my cheek.

"Whose going to stop us having some fun? Nobody's around anyway" The one with axe began toying with the hem of my bodice and I tensed.

No! If i was going to die then I wouldn't be disgraced as well!

"Fine. But make it quick" The sword was gone and I began to finally try squirming out the axe mans grip, but he had wrapped his arms around me and simply chuckled in response.

"No promises. I think I'll take my"- I heard wind swishing in my ear, before the man behind me grunted and fell to the floor, water spilled onto me from the sky and I looked up at the clear skies in confusion, until i looked at my hands and gasped.

Red. Red droplets...

I turned around to see the man with the axe convulsing in a pool of his blood.

How?...

The sound of a scream echoed and I flipped my head to see the man with the arrow against the truck of a tree, his legs... his legs were gone. I could feeel my sight being covered by floaters as I turned to see the bamboo stick man on the floor. The one with sword... I looked up to find him and he was held above the floor by his neck.

I didn't pay him any mind as I stared at the dark hair, covered in the red that coated white porcelein skin, matching the eyes that condemned the man it held to death. I heard the sound of bones crunching before the body fell pathetically to the ground. I paid it no mind as my eye stared straight in the bloody redness of Jules.

His hair, once tidy, now a mess across his face, dripping blood that covered his eye and fell down his chin. There was a messiness about him that was unusual, as if he had been unprepared for this. He looked like the grim reaper, sent from above to pull me beyond the depths of hell.

I was horrified. Terrified. Scared out of my mind.

Yet my legs walked towards him in inconsistent stumbles, until my hand clutched onto his cape. My legs gave out and I found my body being held by him as I leaned against him, tears streaming down my face.

"Thank-Thank you!" I choked out as I sobbed.
