Chapter 9: The Breakout
Amanda made pancakes in the morning.
Her guest was still sleeping when she brought them to his room. She gently tapped Levi’s arm until he opened his eyes, alert all at once. She smiled at him. “Good morning.”
He nodded.
“This is the part where you say, ‘Good morning, Amanda, thank you for saving my life and making me pancakes.’”
He glared. From what she’d seen of him, it seemed like he did that a lot.
She awkwardly patted his arm. “We’ll work on it.”
As he ate, Amanda noticed that Levi seemed more present than he had the morning before. Just a tad more alert, maybe, or perhaps his color had completely come back. He hadn’t bled through his bandages, thankfully, so maybe he was moving right along in the healing process.
“Whose bedroom is this?” Levi suddenly asked.
“Hmm?” Amanda looked up at him. “Oh. It’s the guest room.”
He nodded.
“Why?”
“Doesn’t smell like you.” He tucked back into his meal.
