Chapter 17: The Morning

By the time Levi finished his sordid tail, it was well past midnight, and he looked worn out from so much talking. At some point, he’d moved up to sit next to her in bed, with his back braced against the headboard. Little by little, Amanda had started to lean into his side, growing more tired with every hour that crept by. By the end, her head was pillowed on his good shoulder.

He was warm.

“That’s…” she tried to think of something to say when it became apparent he was done speaking. “That’s a lot,” she finally settled on.

He huffed out a humorless laugh.

“I already didn’t like him,” Amanda said, “But now I can say with certainty that I hate your brother.”
