Chapter 27: The Return

Levi’s eyes scanned Amanda’s face, color painting his cheeks. His eyes were sad, but hooded, mouth pinched in the corner as he cupped her face with a touch as gentle as it was warm.

He leaned in, just slightly, but it was enough. Amanda took his wrists in her hands and met him halfway, eyes sliding closed as their mouths met in a warm, chaste kiss. It only lasted a second before Levi drew back, gazing at her as though it broke his heart to do so.

“Amanda,” he breathed.

She knew what he was going to say. There were a million reasons why this was a bad idea. But the damage was already done, and if she was going to have her heart broken, she was going to make it worth their while.

She grabbed the lapels of his jacket and pulled him back in for another kiss.
