Chapter 28: The White Knight

Chapter 28: The White Knight

Darkness was falling rapidly around Amanda, and by her estimate, she was only halfway home. It didn’t help that she was dragging her feet. She was just thankful to the snow for giving her a path to follow back; otherwise, she likely would have gotten helplessly lost.

Every step, she thought about turning around and running back to Levi, declaring that she didn’t care about the danger–she was going to follow him, wherever he went. It was an insane daydream, and she knew better than to act on it, but the want was there, strong and solid where it stewed hot beside her heart.

She imagined Levi rushing back to her, saying they would figure out how to make things work, offering up fantastical plans to meet again in the future.
