“What do you mean you’ll steal them?” Joshua barked, his rage bringing him closer to life and health by the second. “So, what, you’ll just stroll through town to the doc’s, steal a buncha stuff, and trot on back with a bag full of goods and hope nobody notices?”

“Yes,” Ivory said, so full of confidence, standing up to pose like she was the leading lady in a grand play. “I am Ivory Irons, daughter of esteemed businessman Henry Irons, and I am going for a walk through town because I need to make an appointment with my doctor.” She looked to Joshua who was pleasantly intrigued by this carefree side of her.

“Yeah? What if someone stops you and asks what you’re out doing all by your lonesome? They’ll surely ask why you’ve no strapping young general at hand.” He was smiling through the deformity. “Tell me that, Ms. Irons.”
