Chapter 30

Joshua stepped out from the carriage, Hooverton let him know they’ll be in touch about a pre-employment tour. Joshua thanked him and slowly made for the barn, reaching for the folded up paper in his pocket. He waited until the carriage was completely out of sight before unfolding the parchment, written on it were the words see you tonight at the barn. He smiled and stuffed it back into his pocket.

Upon reaching the barn door, Joshua put his ear to the wood and listened. Only silence. He considered that maybe Joseph had gone back to sleep, lord knows he himself wanted to, and there wasn’t a chance Brody was still in there. Wherever Brody was, he let everyone know that he was there. Joshua pushed gently on the door to see if it’d been locked since his departure, it hadn’t, and it cracked open.
