Chapter 12: Changes

“Sit on the couch and relax,” Grey said as we entered the den.

I sat down, gripping the edge of the seat to keep myself from bouncing up and down with excitement. Just then, more questions popped into my head. “Grey, how many shifters are there?”

Grey sat in the recliner. “In the world or near Denhurst?”

“Both,” I replied.

“I’m not sure of the exact number,” he said. “It’s not common and some places have more than others.”

“That was a little vague,” I said.

He shrugged. He seemed to still be hiding something.

I sighed. “Okay, let’s try a different question. How many do you know?”

“How many what?” Grey asked, his wide-eyed expression feigning confusion.

I tossed a throw pillow at him. “Shifters,” I said. “How many shifters in this area do you know?”

With a smile on his handsome face, he started counting on his fingers until I grew impatient again.

“Grey!” I exclaimed. “Come on.”
