Chapter 16: Shifter Pool Party

The sunlight streaming in my bedroom window woke me the next morning. I went to the window and peered outside at another lovely day.

I spotted Grey with a shovel and wheelbarrow spreading something dark brown onto the flower beds near my window. He must have sensed my gaze and looked up. I waved, but he turned away and kept working.

It was the first time I’d seen him since yesterday when I left with Finn. I hoped he just hadn’t seen me and wasn’t ignoring me again. I missed his voice, his smile, his touch. I missed him.

I stretched and yawned on my way to the bathroom, recalling the previous night.

I’d ask Lily who had been in the woods last night when I returned with Finn. He said it wasn’t the Shaws. Who else would set him on edge like that?

The mysterious, secretive stuff was starting to get on my nerves. How could I have more enemies that I didn’t know?

Downstairs, I found Lily dusting the foyer.

“Good morning,” she sang out. “How was your night out?”
