“Are you sure you don’t want to join us? I feel horrible leaving you home alone.” My mom says before stepping outside the house.
“And ruin your date? Not a chance.” I smile at both of them. Every now and then, my parents like to treat themselves to a nice spot just outside of town, but recently it's been difficult to find time outside of work. However, tonight they finally get to go out together. And very much deserved; they’ve been working hard. So, I’d rather not third wheel it.
I pat my father on the back. “I’ll be fine here. I gotta study anyway. You guys go and enjoy yourselves.”
He stares at me for a while, trying to read my face, then smiles back in defeat. “We’ll get you a takeout box from there.”
I laugh. “Well, if you insist. I won’t say no to free food.”
“Good luck with your studying, dear.” My mother waves.
“Thanks, mom.”
