Chapter 26: First Day

“I thought her questions would never end,” I sigh, plopping onto the bed. “Didn’t know I had one more final to worry about before winter break started.”

Truly, I have never felt so stressed for a test in my life. Pulling all nighters the night before an exam is nothing compared to being tested by your boyfriend’s mother on their family history. This is my first time being in a relationship, but I’m pretty sure that’s not a normal thing to do over dinner. Then again, nothing about this is normal.

“Well, you handled it well.” Ray says, sitting beside me. “They don’t absolutely hate your guts which is a great sign.”

I laugh at that. “So hating my guts is better than absolutely hating it, huh? Glad I’m off to a great start.”

He smiles for a bit, but it slowly slips away as something clouds his thoughts.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, noticing.
