Chapter 28: The Woman in the Woods

Exhausted, I kick off my shoes and throw myself onto the bed, feeling like I want to cry myself to sleep. Today couldn’t have gone any more wrong.

Apparently, I like to beat up kids, and when I returned to my post, I was reprimanded for losing the white paint. I’ll have to go back out with Sam and Nathan soon, but I honestly just want to clock out.

I groan.

This is a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. Lifting up from the mattress, I stare at my reflection in the mirror beside the wardrobe. My eyes shift to my neck, pulling the turtleneck away to reveal the mark that’s not as red as before. I recall Sam’s concern over it. I’m not sure why I didn’t tell her the truth; that I actually wasn’t fine and even had a strange dream of almost burning alive in a forest.
