Chapter 33: False Promise

If receiving thanks from Alpha James wasn’t enough, even Taryn and some of the parents who accused me earlier came to apologize and thank me. As well as Jacob, who ended up confessing his crime with the white paint incident a while back, to which Taryn apologized profusely for.

Although it’s nice to finally be acknowledged for all my efforts and trying to bond with the community, I can’t help but notice that the one who looks the most guilty of all is Ray. After everything is said and done with the parents, he pulls me to the side with a sad frown.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, taking his hand in mine.

“A lot of things.” He admits, sighing. “Do you mind if we take a walk?”

It’s just about to be sundown as everyone heads back to their homes.

I smile and nod. “Lead the way.”
