Chapter 40: Start of War

DEMING WOODS, WA — VAGABONDS' HIDEOUT

SAM’S POV

—EARLIER—

A numbing pain looms over my head as I open my eyes to a dim lit room with dust floating about. The feeling of blood running down my forehead alerts me, but I realize that my hands are bound behind my back. I guess I shifted back.

The sound of a cough makes me turn to the culprit and I gasp in horror seeing Nathan in the same fate as me, but he looks a lot more battered and bruised. What in the world happened while I was unconscious? All I can remember is getting caught watching Nathan and the others face the rogues, but nothing else comes to mind afterwards. Only a throbbing headache.

I try to inch my way over to stir him awake, but the sound of voices behind the door makes me cease in my tracks.

“I told you, we have to go after Orion now.” One says. “He’s chasing after the Alphas’ sons. We won’t have another window if it’s like this. Damn that guy. Always so unpredictable and a pain in the a*s.”
