Chapter 45: With the Lunar Howls

DEMING WOODS, WA — LUNAR HOWLS’ ALPHA’S HOUSE

SCARLET’S POV

Five months have passed since the tragedy at Bloodclaw and my father’s horrible betrayal. Although he was not a part of the funeral service we held afterwards, I had my own private one just for him. Even now, I still don’t understand how and where his obsession for power began.

All my life I was raised to be the best. Ever since my mother passed without producing a male heir, that has been the expectation I had to reach for my father’s approval. Although, back then, he was just proud of me for being able to keep up with Ray and Gabe in my studies, as well as hunting and combat.

But then at one point, it all shifted. He became colder, his praises shorter, his criticisms longer.

Maybe it was because people were on his neck about having a male take over. Maybe I started to become less and less adequate for the position. Maybe I just wasn’t good enough anymore for him.

But enough of that.
