Chapter 46: With the Bloodclaws

DEMING WOODS, WA — BLOODCLAW TERRITORY

RAY’S POV

“That’ll do for today. You’re all dismissed.” My father says, and with that, everyone rises from their chair and leaves the living room, bidding farewell to my mother on their way out.

Sighing, I lean back on my chair, sinking into it a bit. Another long day, another long meeting. It feels like all I’ve been doing is work. Rebuilding our community, setting up defenses, having multiple meetings with the other packs about reunifying the treaty, etc.

I feel like my head is about to explode.

“Ray.”

Hearing my name, I peer over at my father who has his hands folded on the table. That position alone tells me that I have to pay attention, so I sit back up.

“It’s been a while now that you’ve been shadowing my duties.” He starts. “So your mother and I have been talking, as well as with Alpha Daniel that…well…”

He clears his throat awkwardly, trying to find the proper wording.

Oh no. I hope it isn’t what I think he’s trying to say.
