Zaros walked out of the chambers leaving the brother and sister alone.
Maximus's heart wrenched at the sight of his sister. She repeatedly said she doesn't want to marry this guy. Yet he made her marry the one.
Didn't she say he was her mate?
Then why does he treat her like this?
Was the bond even real?
Many thoughts swirled in his mind as he looked at his sister.
Taking her hand into his hands, he held it tightly. His sister, his angel, and his cute bundle were now lying unconsciously.
A word from her now, he would wreak havoc. He wouldn't care a single thing about pact or anything. All he cared about was her well-being now.
"Angel, just wake up and tell a single word that you are not happy, I will turn everything upside down for you. It won't affect the pact or the deal between the two races. Just wake up," he said with tears in his eyes.
This was the first time, he saw her sister like this.
Partly he was to blame too. If not for him, she would not even agree to this. As he looked at her pale face, pale lips, and her dull skin. She wasn't glowing like before. She wasn't happy like before. And he was the reason for it. He wouldn't make her suffer anymore.
He will postpone the crowning, that way they would be forced to stay here. He can take care of his sister too. This would be the plan for now. He leaned back on the headrest as he continued to hold her hand.
After a few hours, Adira woke up feeling lightheaded. When she noticed she was in her room, she felt relieved.
She could feel someone grabbing her palm, turning her head she saw her brother leaning on the headboard as he held her hand. A smile crept on her face as she looked at him. She adjusted his position in a way that he slept properly. Getting up, she walked out of the room only to be greeted by maids.
"Princess, Allow us to inform the Queen. Please stay inside and rest," a maid said stopping her from going out of the room. Adira said nothing and nodded her head.
"Bring food too," Everyone heard Maximus's voice.
Maximus woke up when Adira tried to change his sleeping position. Adira said nothing and walked toward her brother.
Maximus said nothing and hugged his sister quietly. No one said a word. Silence enveloped them as they hugged each other.
"Are you okay?" Maximus first broke the silence.
"I am," she replied.
"If you are not happy. Just say a single word. Brother will do everything to get you out of this thing," Maximus added.
"Brother, I am tired. Let's not talk about these things for now," Adira said in her raspy voice.
Maximus turned silent. He said nothing. He respected her words. For now, he would do what she asked. But he already started planning what steps to take now.
[We shall kill him!] his wolf, Orlean said.
[Not yet. We need to use brain before fists for now.] Maximus said.
[If he lays a hand on her again after this second. I will take over and will exact revenge for our sister! Even if it gets our mate to hate us!] Orlean roared.
Maximus nodded at him.
[That will make our sister go through a heartbreak. He is her destined mate.] Maximus said.
[I doubt that. I still wonder if her wolf got confused or something. We got a mate because our second mate got a heartbeat. But this guy got no heartbeat! How could you be sure? Ask her to recheck if he was her mate or not? What if she was confused? She is only twenty. She doesn't even know how to recognize a mate! She is a kid, Maximus. How could you trust her instincts on this? Be with her and ask her to confirm if he was her mate or not! Okay?] Orlean said.
As Maximus thought about it, even he felt Orlean was right. Indeed, his sister was a kid, she might have got confused with the things she heard from others here and there. He needs to recheck things.
"Angel," Maximus called out softly.
"Brother," she said. Her voice was meek, low, and melodious to his ears.
"Are you sure he is your mate?" Maximus asked.
"I said it. He is," Adira said breaking the hug.
"Does your wolf shout the word 'mate' when she sees him?" Maximus asked.
"Leina said when we first saw Zaros," Adira said.
"Oh," he responded.
"My King," the servant's voice could be heard from outside.
"Come in," he ordered them.
"Let's eat first. Then we have to meet the Great Witch," Maximus said.
"Okay," Adira nodded her head at him.
Maximus made sure she ate more than her stomach can fit. After they both were done eating, Maximus and Adira went to meet Serene first.
"I am glad, you are fine," Serene said as she peppered kisses on her daughter's face.
"Tell mother if you have any hard time," Serene said cupping her face.
"I will," Adira said with a weak smile.
"Meet the great witch first. It's not good to keep a witch waiting for you," Serene said. For some reason, she wanted to stay with her daughter all the time. Maybe it's the mother's heart. When her child was sick, her heart would be restless. She won't even care about her well-being. That's how mothers are.
"We will leave now, mom," Adira said.
"Come quickly, okay?" she said with a worried face.
"Mom, I will be there with her. Don't be scared now, okay?" Maximus said as he took his sister's hand into his hand.
His mother already worried enough. He has to make her relieved at least from now. And she would be relieved only when his sister was safe and sound. After assuring his mother he left with his sister to the Great Witch's tower.
