"What did my husband do to you that made you both like this?" Adira asked, feeling nervous. She noticed her sister-in-law straightening her back at her question.
Lenora watched Adira with a calculative gaze. She wanted to know why she asked such a question.
"Why do you want to know?" Lenora asked.
Adira has many reasons to know them. She felt like she was different from everyone. Everyone knew what happened to her, but Adira Elisaveta didn't know anything about it. Even though she gave a second chance by her husband, she feels like she was being stabbed in her husband's presence.
He used to tell her she was of no use than being a pretty piece of furniture to him. Zaros said she should stop butting her head in the things of his family and in his court things, which hurt her a lot.
Now, they were giving a chance to their relationship. She doesn't want to lose the chance of knowing things and be scared of him.
"I don't want to be a piece of furniture. I don't want to be clueless anymore. I want to know things that are happening around me," she said with a distant gaze that held many unsaid words to her. A layer of pain hidden behind her facade, along with grief, sadness, and what was it? Betrayal too. Maybe. Or it could be a disappointment too.
She doesn't know how to feel towards her. Lenora knew that everyone knew what happened between her and her family. The citizens may not know but Maximus and Serene knew about what happened with her family.
From Adira's behavior, she won't be surprised if Zaros has said some snarky things towards her regarding this too.
Maybe it's not good if she stays hidden away from the truth. She shall know the truth one day or other.
"What will you do after knowing what happened?" Lenora asked.
"I don't know," Adira replied truthfully. She doesn't know what she could do or what will do. But… she just hoped that she wouldn't be in dark anymore.
"I just hope, this would help me understand my husband better. I wish to work this marriage out with my hundred percent this time. From what I heard, Zaros's fiancee is so capable, that she was equal to the deceased commander Victoria.
"I may not be equal to her. I just hope to do whatever I can for this new relationship and my possible home of mine. I don't want to disappoint my family or worry them. I am married after all. If they continue to fight for me or to protect me there would be no use for this pact.
"Before I get inside the Vampire palace I want to know what happened to you and your brother that made both of you farther and farther. I can even say that Lady Eudora is also distant from you.
"I am afraid of offending people and being insensible towards them without knowing what happened exactly. Is it wrong trying to know things?" Adira asked.
"Hmm… if you want to know. Then it's okay. But you won't be able to see the people as they are right now. Your opinion will change. Can you manage like you know nothing?" Lenora asked.
She wants to know Adira's reaction here. Adira was too young compared with other people around here. She was only twenty. Let's twenty-one. She will turn twenty-one. She didn't even get the chance to find her mate but got married. Adira was deprived of the right she was supposed to get as a werewolf.
What she could say?
Adira couldn't complain or cry about her fate. Just like her.
Being born into the royal family as a princess was something that comes with a great sacrifice for every princess one way or another. They have to turn into dogs and fight for flesh without caring about anything in the world. They have to strive hard to keep the peace between the two kingdoms and have to become scapegoats.
They don't understand why men weren't sold like a piece of flesh just like women. Weren't they the same as them?
Why were they given special privileges?
Why women weren't given special privileges as men?
What do women lack that men have?
There were many more questions in their heads as the princesses.
Also, they don't see any reason why men can have more than one wife while women couldn't have more than one husband.
"It doesn't matter. A change of opinion may be a must. But it doesn't change the relations or the problems. I will still be the wife to your brother, a daughter-in-law to Vampires, and a daughter to Werewolves for the rest of my life. And anyway it doesn't change the rules of the pact. The same shit will continue in my life and in yours too," Adira said with a shrug.
Lenora smiled at her. If she was asked the same question she would have given a similar answer or the same answer. Despite her age, Adira knew a lot. She was an intellect. But not enough to survive those shady vampires. She only hoped she could stay safe in the Vampire world.
Lenora just wished her brother would cherish this cute and smart lady and protect her well from all the awaiting dangers for her.
"If that's the case. I will tell," Lenora said.
Adira straightened herself as she perked her ears to listen to her sister-in-law. She could have waited for her husband to speak out, but she was not at a stage to trust him that he would reveal the secrets to her.
"It's a tale from two years ago," Lenora started.
