The Mystery Visitor

Inside the darkened room, only the yellow candle flickering in the corner of the room was enough to illuminate this room a little. Jasmine didn't see any movement inside, so she went in, straightened, and closed the door. The sound of the wooden door being closed resounded, and then no more sound could be heard. In fact, Jasmine doesn't usually receive guests like this. Usually, people who come to Normen's house because of her are impulsive and frivolous. When they saw her, they were like animals that saw delicious food and rushed to devour it. But the guest sitting in front of her didn't seem like that.

The man sat still for a moment, then slowly turned to look at Jasmine. In the dim light, this was the first time Jasmine had seen such a man. The man's eyes were bright, a little cold and distant. Surely, this is no ordinary man, Jasmine thought. There will be no leisurely visit to this red-light district with such a set of glittering gems. Anyway, the security in this district is not very good.

Jasmine gave a small smile. She smiles a lot, each time with a different smile. Sometimes she was sad, sometimes embarrassed, and sometimes happy to treat guests who spent money to spend the night with her. After all, in this red-light district, the duties of people like her are basically the same; just smile.

"Is this your first visit to Normen?"

She approached the guest sitting on the chair and asked in a low voice. Jasmine felt that if she did not talk, she was afraid that between her and the other guest, no one would speak first.

"How do you know?"

This guest's bushy eyebrows were raised a little, apparently interested. Jasmine smiled again. She sat down on the chair, poured a cup of mint tea from the teapot, and placed it in front of the other guest. She remembered everyone who had been to this Normen house.

Please don't think her memory is better than others. It's just that she used to send many things to the guests who came here. Because there are people who have told her that she should give them some time, they will take her out of this red-light district. One person after another, she kept hoping and then being disappointed. Everyone who had been here before, everyone told her that sentence. Then, unconsciously, she memorised the face of that visitor. But just remember. They couldn't remember her, nor could they remember what they said to her. Therefore, Jasmine was still in this red-light district until today.

"I'm sorry. What should I call you?"

Suddenly, remembering that she hadn't asked how to address this guest, Jasmine shyly bowed her head slightly. The corners of her eyes were also slightly pink because of embarrassment, like a ripe fruit, making others want to take a bite.

"I am? Just call Will. "

The other guest spoke softly. Jasmine looked up at the man in front of her, her eyes wide. Apparently, she had heard this name somewhere before, but couldn't remember it. And she is not sure. A name doesn't mean anything.

The two sat opposite each other, just talking a few sentences back and forth. Actually, Jasmine asked, Will replied. She also did not know the reason why Will came to this red-light district to do anything. She asked, but he didn't answer.

After talking for a while, Will said that he was sleepy. Jasmine helped him lie down on the only bed in the room, and she just leaned slightly beside him. Will slept very well. He himself did not know why he slept so well. It had been a long time since he had slept so comfortably.

Jasmine lay beside him, her arms over her head, silent. A strange guest, she thought to herself. Apparently, this man named Will came to this red-light district, unlike other men. How to say it? He came here to find someone to talk to. Jasmine did not know, after all, what this guest had in mind when he came here, but one thing she was sure of was that he was not like other people who came here just to satisfy their lusts.

Early in the morning, Jasmine had already left that room. Before leaving, she also specifically instructed the Normen house workers not to wake up the guest inside. Andale brought her food up to her room, and today there was a cake with honey that she liked best. Andale cut a large piece of cake and placed it on Andale's plate. The little girl happily poured a lot of honey on the cake, and then cut large pieces of cake to put in her mouth.

Jasmine just ate a little cake, and then she rested her hand on the window shelf, looking outside. A figure appeared below the main road and then disappeared into the crowd. Will was gone.

In the morning, the red light district is not as crowded as at night. Only a few guests come here looking for a girl to enjoy with them. The street was unusually quiet. Jasmine soon got used to the quiet in the mornings of this place. She also felt that, at such times, the morning light was strangely gentle. Andale had already packed her things, and she was alone in the room. Jasmine felt a little bored. She stood up, pulled the lap of her shirt that was sliding over her pearly white shoulders, and sighed. She wanted to go down the street for a bit. The landlady, Normen, did not stop her. Anyway, the girls here all had time to relieve themselves by walking down the street. They just go out like that and want to escape from this red-light district, which is almost impossible. It's not that Jasmine hasn't tried to run away. When she was first sold here by her aunt, she tried to run away from this place. As a result, they were arrested, beaten, and starved. At that moment, Jasmine knew that she would never be able to escape from this place.

The early summer winds blow on the burning flesh. Every time the wind blows, it feels the heat of the approaching summer. As she walked down the deserted street, no one noticed her. That's right, a long dress that hides her white skin, plus a scarf to cover her face. It's not easy to see her.

"Jasmine, I want to buy this."

Andale tugged at her sleeve, causing Jasmine to look down at her and then back at the fragrant bun in the cage. She was a little funny now. Andale had already eaten all her cakes, but now she wanted to eat more. Well, anyway, Andale was still in her prime. There's nothing wrong with being a little greedy.

"Master, how do these buns sell?"

Jasmine pulled up her veil and approached the bakery. The owner was an old man. His eyes seemed to be no longer sharp. The owner took a long time to see the buns that Jasmine wanted to buy.

"That bun, the small one costs one gold coin, the big one costs three gold coins."

Andal finished listening, her face pale. She didn't think it was that expensive. The little girl who worked in the Normen's house was only paid by her mistress for two gold coins a day, and couldn't even buy a big bun. Jasmine took a purse from her pocket, put nine gold coins in the master's hand, and bought three large buns for Andale. Looking at Andale's face, contorted with regret for money, Jasmine laughed and stroked the sunny hair of the little girl standing beside her.

"It's only nine gold coins. I bought it for you."

Andale was sold here by her father three days ago. Jasmine remembers that when she saw her, it was like seeing herself when she was first sold into this place. Skinny, ragged, dirty. Maybe that's why she fell in love with this little girl, with blonde hair, the colour of the sun. Looking at Andale, somewhere in Jasmine felt that she would be a beautiful woman when she grew up. Therefore, she spends money to raise a beautiful woman, which is not too much of a loss.

Holding a bag of buns in her hand, Andale's face was very happy. She had heard her father talk about a beautiful young woman with black hair and dark eyes, unlike anyone else in this country. At first, she was also curious. A young woman with such an appearance was almost impossible to find in Joghtunham. If it weren't for his father's debt to others, Andale would not have been sold to this red-light district. But a part of her also feels very lucky because she met Jasmine.

The day Andale was sold to the Normen house, it was Jasmine who accepted that little girl as her servant. At that time, she said, the old maid had been moved to another brothel, so there was no one beside her now. Jasmine took Andale as her servant, the job was not heavy. To be more precise, there should be nothing to do. Things like cleaning up and the Normen's are all handled by someone. Andale just had to bring food to Jasmine's room, and sometimes go for a walk with her. That's it. The whole day's work was done. Jasmine's personality is also good, gentle, and not scary like others.
