This chapter is about loss and moving forward. This chapter has less education and more activities. During my time in residential we had groups, and I helped make some, and two groups we had were grief and loss, and moving forward. For these two activities you'll need paper and a writing utensil. Now onto the first worksheet, grief and loss. 1. If a loss can be any major change in a person's life, what is one thing besides the death of someone that could be considered a loss? 2. Reflect on a loss you've had and write 3 'I felt...' statements about it. 3. What do you think is the biggest loss in your life so far? 4. How have you coped? Have you grieved? 5. Why do people need to grieve? What purpose does it serve? 6. What happens to people when they don't grieve their losses? Now the next worksheet, moving forward. Moving forward in your recovery means continuing to work towards responsible, healthy behaviors. Staying on track with your efforts for positive change requires continued motivation to make good personal choices in the decisions you make each day. Keep in mind that change is not an event that happens at a certain time or place. It is an ongoing process of developing and practicing behaviors that bring you closer each day to a more productive and rewarding life. 1. What are your thoughts and feelings about moving your life forward in a positive direction? 2. What are some temptations and obstacles to change that you're facing today? 3. What are some things you wish to move toward in life and what are the benefits you will experience by moving forward in your recovery? 4. How will moving forward also benefit your loved ones and/or community? 5. What would you like to move forward from in your recovery? 6. How could not moving forward negatively affect you? 7. List 2 people and 2 things that could trigger you and how you could avoid them. The next chapter will be about high risk behaviors and things.
