I definitely think I’ve swallowed my heart.
“So what?” I say. My voice comes out creaky like heavy footsteps on a wooden plank.
Lina starts walking towards me. I don’t risk standing for I think I will fall.
“They say he’s hidden her in the palace somewhere.” She says.
I want to run, punch, scream, cry, something. I’ve never felt more afraid in my life.
My heavy heart is pumping my blood full of fire and fear.
“Wow, that’s really insane.” I say. Lina shrugs her shoulders.
“I’ve never seen the prince interacting with anyone suspicious.” She says.
I make my way to my feet. She won’t hurt me, especially if she knows. She’ll probably try to extort me for money I don’t have.
But behind her is a group of people I don’t know, and I don’t trust. So if I do run, I have no confidence I’ll make it far.
“Have you seen anyone suspicious?” She asks. I pause. Was she asking because she doesn’t know or because she wants to throw me off of her suspicion?
