I’ve been working in the library, reading books about nobles and royalty. How Lorelei was founded by the Prince’s great-great-great-grandfather, who was a fisherman who sailed a bit too far from the mainland and found an entire country.
It’s a cute story of how he meant the princess. They fell in love and together raised a great nation. But it ends tragically when she passes too early.
The story leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Like it’s too familiar to my own story. My mother’s story.
I have also been studying the hallways. Tunnel-like halls lead to escape routes out of the castle. Out the back, out the front, and out the sides. Some of them lead to the attic, to the basement where there are prisons, and some lead to the quarters of the royal family. Thankfully, I haven’t had any run-ins with them while exploring. They’re always on the move.
