Islet has waited eighteen long years and is eager to know the face of her soul mate. In a cruel twist of fate, she learns that the Holy One has paired her with royalty. But not just any royalty, Prince Cerulean of the neighboring country, who has recently announced his engagement to Princess Marilla of Selkie. The same princess that Islet can't stand.

She nods once and turns the earrings in her hands.


“Your mother was a good craftsman. I see why you girls are fighting over these.”


“Your Highness,” I start. I clear my throat. “May you elaborate?”


“You aren’t as bright as you look,” she says. She holds one earring up to her ear. “I’m sure I’d look beautiful wearing these on my little vacation.”


“For how long?” I ask. My clenched teeth makes my skull ache.


“Forever. I am already in the process of getting him another wife. One he will like…more,” she says.


I ignore the pangs in my chest. ‘No more wives, woman!’ I want to shout but it would be a useless action, especially on her.


“Forever is a long time, Your Highness.”


“Even better, why don’t I give you a settlement. I give you a lump sum. You pack your bags, and head to a different palace to expand your business,” she says. A vicious smile replaces her soft features.


I can't say no, I am in her home. She is the Queen. But...Cerulean.
