At the break of their eighteenth birthday, the young adults of Selkie travel in droves to drink Sunburst. The serum is concocted by the priests, who in ceremony bless each person in finding their Twin Ray.

Islet has waited eighteen long years and is eager to know the face of her soul mate. In a cruel twist of fate, she learns that the Holy One has paired her with royalty. But not just any royalty, Prince Cerulean of the neighboring country, who has recently announced his engagement to Princess Marilla of Selkie. The same princess that Islet can't stand.

Duke Creed brings Princess Marilla to the shop front.


“Hello, Islet,” he says with a small smile. 


“Hello, Your Grace,” I say and bow.


I refrain from gritting my teeth at her. “Hello, Princess Marilla, to what do I owe the pleasure?”


Duke Creed peers into the shop before answering. 


“I would like to see the merchandise. I’ve given plenty of time for your father and you to get to work, but this is the first time I’ve ever seen it open,” he says. I step out of the way and allow them within the shop.


“Father and I have been a bit busy collecting all the materials and pulling together the best quality items we can,” I say. 


Princess Marilla looks unimpressed, her eyes linger far too long on the empty necklace wall. 


“You should worry more about quantity,” she says.


“I disagree, Your Highness. Only the best for our customers.” 


Duke Creed chuckles and brings her over to the ring section. I trail behind them.
