I push my hands into the folds of my dress and look away from him. I truly don’t want him to push his duties away as the crown prince for me. It doesn’t sit well, but I can’t find the words to tell him.
Cerulean pulls us back into the tunnels and we stand in the darkness for a while.
“What is it?” he asks. His cold hands grasp mine.
I lean into the comfort they provide.
“We’ll find a way. But I will not let you sacrifice all you have worked towards in order to save what we have created,” I say.
“Are you saying what we have is not worth the sacrifice?” he asks. I stare into his pale-faced expression.
“Of course what we have is worth the sacrifice. But think of it this way…all I have sacrificed up to this point did not lead me to lose anything in retrospect. While here, I have gained title, wealth, and you. But for you to give up the throne. There would be no gain,” I say.
Cerulean pauses and thinks for a long moment before he fills the cool air with his warm words.
