Chapter 28: The Committee

Micah woke with a gasp. He blinked against a blinding spotlight and stared down at the metal chair he sat in. The chair’s surface was frigid cold against his skin, but despite the goosebumps that coursed up his arms, a heat spread through his chest, warming him from the inside out.

He tried to stand up, but found he was incapable of lifting his arms or legs. He studied his hands, silently demanding his fingers to move. Nothing happened. There were no restraints holding him down, and he realized he was paralyzed from the neck down.

The spotlight dimmed, and the lights of the room were lifted, illuminating a half circle of ten thrones facing him. The people sitting inside each throne comprised the committee. Micah suddenly knew he was in trouble.
