Chapter 18: Sweet as Sugar

Julien’s POV

Present Day

Cionna feels warm curled in my arms as we admire the nighttime view. I wanted tonight to make up for the misunderstanding we’d had before, but even more, I want our memories of each other to be sweet. In another life, I would have been sweet to her as I am now. I would also be able to go further with her.

I try not to let my limits with Cionna bother me, but she has that effect on me. Her eyes sparkle under the moonlight and her smile is contagious. When I’d kissed her, I felt my whole body light up and burn hotter than ever before. She isn’t like Josey. It doesn’t feel raw and scolding, but as if life was being pushed into my lungs and fire poured into my veins. I feel strength and peace in her touch.

I run my fingers through the ends of her hair, causing her to look at me. Her lips are red from the heat of our kiss and the marks stir my blood. Will she let me have her? I trail my fingers slowly up and down her back and watch as her eyes roll and shut.
