Chapter 21: Trial of Invasion

"So, lad, I guess it goes without saying the past 24 hours have been pretty rough on you and plant boy,” Chief Dwayne said as he sat down on a log with Montez in front of one of the community campfires. Montez’s attention was lost within the flames burning before his feet as two Pulmatto women came up to him and placed a blanket over his shoulders. He sat in silence as the commotion of working men, conversating women, and energetic children erupted in the air. For the first time that day, he had a moment to process everything that had happened to him in such a short time. He was lost in a different dimension. His friends were dead. He does not have any contact with the agency. And the only person he knew he could trust was an emotionally unstable teen who could sniff moss like a bloodhound.

“Yeah, to say the least,” he finally responded to the Chief.
