Chapter 22: When a Vampire Says Sorry

As the pub exploded into a sea of frenzied activity, Arras and Rhea escaped into the night. They made their way down the street, walking calmly through the mist.

“Let me see that hand,” Arras said in his quiet, measured voice.

Rhea lifted her hand and Arras unwrapped the cloth.

“It’s not too bad,” he whispered, more to himself.

Licking his finger, Arras then traced the cut. Rhea resisted the urge to pull back and watched in awe as the cut slowly healed. Looking up at Arras with wide eyes, he smiled sadly.

“At least there is one good thing I can do.”

“Thank you, Arras,” Rhea said softly. “Thank you for helping me back in the pub, and for healing my cut. That was kind of you.”

“It is the least I can do…for breaking your heart,” Arras lifted Rhea’s chin. “I…would you like to go for a walk with me?”

Rhea looked back over her shoulder at The Merry Otter, which was returning to a normal level of festivities.
