Chapter 29: Bond of Brothers

Taigh jumped to his feet, but he was too far away from his brother to provide any protection. Rhea felt her heart pounding in her chest.

“Jasper, wait,” Taigh begged. “Please don’t.”

Jasper signaled to someone behind him and several similar dressed individuals approached from the garden outside.

“Jasper,” Taigh whispered again. “I can explain…”

Jasper frowned suddenly, looking at Arras’ face. His eyes flickered between Taigh and Arras.

“By the Gods…You’re brothers,” Jasper stared at Taigh. “You’ve been protecting him all along.”

The betrayal in the eyes of Jasper was clear and he raised his bow.

“I’m sorry my friend.”

Taigh leaped across the room as Jasper fired the crossbow. Arras was ready, however, and snatched the arrow from the air. With thunderous shrieks and roars, Aedan and Brennus joined the fight, and Faelen charged out from below the table to protect his master. He latched on to the closest hunter’s arm and snarled.
