Chapter 19: The park

He'd wanted to prove to himself that the chemistry between them had gone. That proved false the moment their lips met. He forgot they stood at the entrance of a building in a questionable area. Forgot that the woman in his arms had tried to foist another man's children onto him. All he knew was that she fitted perfectly against him. That she tasted exactly as he remembered. And her lush body felt even better under his hands.

She responded, briefly, so brief, he could've imagined her lips softening and her body molding to his. She wrenched out of his arms, her hair flying around her face, and some of the golden strands clung stubbornly to his suit jacket. "Stay away from me and my children," she rasped, and then she ran inside and up the stairs.

He followed her to the stairs, kept back, but made sure she got safe inside her apartment.
