Chapter 36: Paying

She woke to find Rafe leaning over her, lazily stroking a finger over her naked breast. She smiled at him. "Morning." There were worse ways to wake up.

He leaned down and kissed her. "Morning," he said against her lips. "I want you." They made love, and Lindi loved the slow way they came together. As if there was no hurry and no bitterness between them. As if each of them didn't believe the other had betrayed them.

"I'd better check on the twins," she said, for once, reluctant to get up.

"They're in the stables, paying for taking my intercom system apart," Rafe told her. His smile was wicked. "I told my housekeeper to wake them early and send them to my manager for some hard labor."

She cut off a laugh, her hand over her mouth. "You didn't?"

"Of course, I did."

She slapped her hand to her forehead. "Do you have any idea of the arguments they're going to come up with?"
