Chapter 18: Class 1-A

Chapter 18: Class 1-A

~Ren Y. POV~

[Next Day, U.A. High School, Class 1-A, Japan]

First day of class. I just finished packing my stuff to make my way toward U.A. Today I officially began my high school career. The acceptance rate appeared to have been just as small as it has always been. Only 1 in 300%. We were split into two classes with 20 students each.

I'm still curious if my interaction in the overall continuity of the test had somehow changed things already. Walking through the halls, I finally encountered my designated class.

Toga already ran ahead of me in anticipation while I was looking around the place, trying to memorize the places of importance because I for sure knew our impending Quirk Apprehension Test.

Class 1-A. So, the most promising students in the country are supposed to be waiting behind that door. Even though I came early to see if I could talk to anyone or meet anyone this early.

Entering through my class's massive door I was surprised to find I wasn't the first person to arrive since there were nearly 30 minutes until the first bell, so it made little sense for anyone else to be here. Granted I always try never to be late no more than 30 minutes because of something happening beyond my control.

Noticing my arrival was a rather short girl with large eyes, a larger-than-average mouth, and dark green hair fashioned into an ornate bow that extended past her hips staring at me. Her hands were also larger than average. [Observe].

[Tsuyu Asui Lv.9 U.A. Student]

Touching her lips with one of her oversized fingers, the green-haired girl remarked in a neutral yet surprised tone, "I didn't expect anyone else to arrive this early, ribbit. I was so nervous that I would be late that I came in early. I'm Tsuyu by the way. Tsuyu Asui."

Recovering from my brief stupor I gave her a friendly smile raising my hand as I replied in a calm tone, "I'm Ren Yuki. It's a pleasure to meet you, Asui-san."

Shaking her hands Toga introduced herself taking seat no.9 in a friendly tone, "Nice to meet you Tsuyu-chan! I'm Himiko Toga!"

She greeted the friendly Toga as Asui said in a neutral tone with a neutral expression making it hard for me to tell her expressions, "Just call me Tsuyu. You're the first people I've met since becoming a student of UA, so I'd like it if we could become friends, ribbit."

Smiling a bit wider I replied sharing the same sentiment in a friendly tone, "I'd like that too, Tsuyu. Feel free to call me Ren."

Seemingly satisfied by my response she adopted a similarly broad smile replying, "Okay, Ren."

Seeing there were a few minutes left I took my desk seated at No.18 and sat down as I asked in a curious tone already knowing the answer, "Not to be rude but does your Quirk have anything to do with frogs? I don't mean to sound insulting, but that's the first impression I got from you. And your verbal tick kind of gives it away."

Instead of answering my question directly she tilted her head to the side and asked curiously, "If you had to say, what kind of frog do you think I resemble?"

Pausing lightly giving a one look over. But I soon responded to not look like a creep in a calm tone answering giving some thought in a questioning tone, "I wanna say jungle frog but… a tree frog?"

Adopting a smile Tsuyu gave me a slight nod and said in a stoic tone, "You're right. My Quirk is related to frogs, ribbit. What about you, Ren-chan?"

Ignoring the fact that she added the chan suffix to my name I explained giving some thought about my Quirk in a calm tone, "My Quirk enhances my body's attributes being able to copy a quirk of a person permanently. But I also need time to adapt to the changes in my body, so I can't copy every quirk willy-nilly and need time to get used to it."

I revealed what my Quirk can do basically as she blinked surprised as she remarked in an impressed tone, "Sounds strong. My Quirk only lets me do things a frog can do, ribbit. Which middle school did you go to, ribbit."

At this, Tsuyu changed topics subjects like which middle schools we originated from, the Entrance Exam, and what kind of Heroes we each wanted to be. Have to say she's certainly nice company to have around waiting for the rest.

Toga soon began to explain her Quirk [Transform], enjoying the casual time we had. I wonder if my actions of taking out too many of those test bots caused any changes to the canon timeline.

~Third POV~

[U.A. High School, Class 1-A, Japan]

Though he enjoyed talking with Tsuyu, Ren was relieved when other students began to arrive a few minutes later before the bell. The first among them was Ida who seemed genuinely shocked to discover others had come before him as Ren waved at the poor teenager.

Shortly after, one of the people Ren had a vested interest in made her appearance, a tall, mature-looking girl with intelligent eyes and raven-black hair tied up in a spiky ponytail. He used [Observe] to see the names and levels of his classmates.

[Momo Yaoyorozu Lv.10 Prodigy]

Seeing the name he merely turned his attention to the four of them Momo noticed their gaze a polite smile adorning her face as she crossed her hands in front of her gave a slight bow and said in a respectful tone, "Greetings fellow students of Class 1-A. My name is Momo Yaoyorozu. I look forward to working alongside each of you as we endeavor to become dependable heroes."

Seizing the opportunity Momo had created, Ida rose from his seat like a spring exclaiming in a stoic tone, "What an excellent greeting! I, Tenya Ida, am also looking forward to working with everyone in our class! May we all go on to become great heroes!"

Seeing how intense her new classmates were, Tsuyu briefly considered not getting involved with them. Unfortunately for her Ren, he spoke in a calm tone greeting the two, "Sup. I'm Ren Yuki a pleasure to greet you both. And this here is Toga. Although for some advice both of you might create a misunderstanding if someone hears you shout."

Piggybacking off Ren's words, Tsuyu gave a slight nod adding quickly, "And I'm Tsuyu. Tsuyu Asui, ribbit."

Smiling lightly wider than before Momo repeated her words being open to constructive criticisms as the two began to drop their belongings. When Momo sat down Ida came closer to Ren as he spoke stoically to him, "Yuki… you… you perceived the true nature of that practical exam. While I did not…!! I misjudged you!! I hate to admit it, but you were the superior candidate!"

Ren simply shrugged being nonchalant as he replied to Ida's words in a calm tone, "I wouldn't say that, Ida. I froze too seeing the Executor but seeing someone in danger my body simply reacted. Since we'll be classmates for a long while let's get along so just relax a little, hahaha."

Ida was a little shocked to see someone friendly like this since he knew that Ren was the first in the Entrance Exam ranking. He isn't arrogant or anything like that… although he was a bit spiteful.

But everyone has their faults Ida smiles a little and says in a calm tone around him, "Ah, so you are the first ranked in the Entrance Exam. I tr-."

*THUD*

Then as he was about to continue the door opened again and soon arrived Bakugo. When he sees Ida and Ren talking, he just says in a loud tone, "Who did you say was number one?!!"

When Ren saw Bakugo he just smiled and said in a teasing tone mistakenly assuming how he heard the information, "Oh… so you heard what we were talking about. Since we weren't talking loudly or when you opened the door that wasn't the last thing that was being said. Sooo… I can only assume that you must have been too shy to enter the door and that's how you heard our conversation isn't it?"

Immediately as soon as Bakugo heard what Ren had said he yelled out loud in an outraged tone, "HELL NO, YOU EXTRA THAT ISN'T WHAT HAPPENED?!!!!"

When Ren heard Bakugo's insult, he just started laughing at him, "Hahaha…"

Bakugo gets even more pissed off when he sees him laughing as Ren stops laughing and snockered. Then with just a smile, he said in a calm tone, "Sorry, sorry… how about we start from the beginning? My name is Ren Yuki."

Then Bakugo when he hears this calms down lightly as he introduces himself, "Sigh… my name is Bak- "

However, it didn't last long as Bakugo started talking when Ren interrupted him and continued his introduction, "… I'm 15 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. Quirk – "

Immediately Bakugo got pissed off yelling at him in an angry tone, "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!!"

Toga just started laughing at their interaction while saying in a laughing mood, "Hahahaha you are such a dumbass."

Bakugo yelled at his words getting increasingly angrier at her words in an offended tone, "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SAY?!!"

The tension between the two is easily shown, however, after a little more arguing Bakugo eventually gets tired of arguing with Ren as he sits down grumbling annoyed, 'Tch! That damn extra! I'll show him!! I won't follow to his little games!!'

Wisely choosing the choice of taking his seat Ren can't help but frown losing his source of amusement and sighing as he thought mildly bored, 'Sigh… I forgot how boring school could be. Maybe making fun of him wasn't the best idea… but it was damn funny.'

However, it was when the next person came intruding on the dissolved tense atmosphere, a girl with distinct pale-pink skin, somewhat square-shaped eyes with black sclera, tiny yellow horns, and fluffy pink hair popped into the room asking in a curious tone, "Am I in the right place? This 'is' Classroom 1-A of the UA High Hero Course, right…?"

Mina Ashido entered the classroom without waiting for a response. Since Momo was the closest, Ashido's yellow eyes focused on her. Soon enough they began discussing girl talks making the class liverier.

Bakugo was still angry, but he ultimately clicked his tongue slid his hands in his pockets, and made his way over to his seat next to Ren glaring daggers at him Ren simply kept a calm expression talking to others ignoring the literal walking bomb man Bakugo.

As time counted down to the start of class, the remaining students of Class 1-A trickled in. Ren used [Observe] on each of them as they arrived, checking their levels and glancing at them briefly.

[Mina Ashido Lv.10 UA Student]

[Tsuyu Asui Lv.9 UA Student]

[Katsuki Bakugo Lv.10 Student]

[Ochaco Uraraka Lv.7 Student]

He counted all 20 students accounted for, adding himself into the mix, taking Izuku Midoriya's place. He was surprised to see that half the class was 10 boys and girls respectively.

Especially since 4 of the boy's places were taken by the four girls. Himiko Toga was a given. But the girls were supposed to go to Class 1-B Itsuka Kendo, Kinoko Komori, and Yui Kodai.

However, given some thought, he sighed in a tired tone, thinking to himself, 'Sigh… I really shouldn't expect everything to be the same. Best to be prepared for the worst or crazy outcomes in the future. At least they're the cute ones…'

That was when he noticed Uraraka him as she spoke in a thankful tone waving her hand in getting his attention, "Hey! It's you! I'm happy to see we are in the same class Yuki-san! Not that I'm surprised, that punch of yours was amazing! You blew that robot apart! And thank you very much for rescuing me!"

She claimed enthusiastically while Ren responded with a casual tone with a smile, "You're welcome. Glad you managed to make it Uraraka-chan."

She blushed lightly but soon Ida took it upon himself to address her for being late rushing over to her to say in a strict tone, "It's the first day of our training at UA High! You should have arrived at least 10 minutes early!"

Recognizing Ida from the Entrance Exams, Uraraka smiled awkwardly as she replied in a sheepish tone, "I know, but there was a delay at the station that required my train to be rerouted. I won't be late in the future."

Furrowing his brows, Ida was about to express that Heroes don't make excuses but swallowed his words when Ren appeared placing his hand on the much taller boy's shoulder in a chill tone, "Give it a rest, Ida-san. You already expressed your opinion, and she said she would be arriving earlier from now on. What more would you ask from her?"

Without waiting for his response Ren, shifted his attention to the floor outside the classroom's entrance adding in a curious tone, "Besides, it would appear our Sensei has arrived. We should probably go to our seats."

"Eh?"

Everyone was confused at first but following his gaze, Uraraka turned around to find a man lying on the ground in a sleeping bag. His position was questionable, as he was lying below and behind a girl wearing a skirt, but he fortunately had his eyes closed.

[Shota Aizawa Lv.? Pro Hero]

Having heard Ren's remark, the man in the sleeping bag roused, revealing himself to be a haggard man with long, greasy black hair and half-opened eyes. His hair hung over his stubby, lazy-looking face, but his most prominent features were the distinctive grey bandages around his neck and shoulders and his predominately black clothing.

Suddenly from their homeroom teacher Aizawa spoke in his usual voice gaining their attention, "If you're here to socialize, then get out."

After shedding his sleeping bag like a pupa emerging from its shell, the gangly man revealed himself in a tired tone, "I'm your Homeroom Teacher, Shota Aizawa. And this is the Department of Heroics, not a place for kids to socialize…"

Punctuating his words, Aizawa pulled one of UA High's distinctive training uniforms from his sleeping bag, holding it out to Ren as he said, "You can get yourselves changed at the Gamma Lockers. After that, head over to Field Gamma. We only have 3 years to transform your sorry lot from incompetent brats to semi-competent Heroes, so don't dawdle."

Ren readily accepts the offered uniform, taking a moment to make hand contact with Aizawa activating his [All in One]. He hid his happiness well getting a chance to copy Eraser Head Quirk.

[Ding!]

[The host found the Quirk [Erasure]. Would you like to copy?]

[Skill: [Erasure] copied!]

----

(Active) Lv.-

PP Cost: 1 PP/Sec.

Description: [Erasure] allows the user to cancel out the Quirk of anyone they look at. When Erasure is active, the user can disable a person's Quirk Factor until he closes/blinks his eyes. The user only needs one part of the target's body to be within his sights for Erasure to take effect.

[Erasure] also seems to generate an anti-gravity phenomenon around the user's head while active, causing it to stand up. [Erasure] can be activated on multiple targets at once and stays in effect even if the user looks elsewhere, as long as their eyes stay open. Cannot stop passive Quirk Skills.

----

Smirking in his mind the man turned to the rest of the Class, surprising nearly everyone as he added, "We're going to be conducting a Quirk Apprehension Test so get ready."

A/N: Now you guys get to see the changes in who is in Class 1-A. That damn butterfly effect has done it again!
