Budding Suspicions.

"So it was Lord Third?" Shikamaru mumbled.

"Yes. Some special case children are directly put under the Hokage's guardianship or one of the Clan heads. Danzo too was one but he created Root out of it."

Shikamaru of course knew of this. Kakashi was just repeating known facts so they could deduct further information.

"Revoked... that means..."

"Yeah..."

"His guardian was probably changed to someone from the Council."

There was a brief silence as they both mulled over it eliminating unlikely candidates. It wasn't Danzo. Nor the Naras, Yamanakas, Akimichis or Hyūga.

Kakashi was about to leave to get to Grade Four as he pondered.

"There's something wrong though..." , added Shikamaru.

Kakashi paused. "Hmm?"

"The ink... it's new."

It was extremely faint. No one would have noticed without a Sharingan or Byakugan. But Shikamaru did. His fingers rubbed the back of the scroll tracing the seal and words.

Those countless hours of pouring over such documents made him extremely familiar with the materials used. Chakra conducting sealing ink was one the only four materials used to make seals and was also used in official documents. It was widely available but expensive so people besides Sai and his kid were very careful while using it.

And there was one property of that sealing ink. It would bleed slowly. Little by little, years and years later, some old, thinner chakra papers would see writing on both sides because the ink bled through.

Uzumaki Naruto's documents hadn't even started bleeding.

....

Tsunade was bored. Her sake intake had reduced to one sake cup per week. One!

'How nice it was when it was only Shizune,' she thought.

Sakura was very persuasive and it was hard sor her to win when she was ganged up  against her disciples.

She liked to have a little buzz to get her through the day but Sakura created some strange concoction out of apples that had a similar effect without affecting her ability to think. It tasted horrible though.

The park bench was littered with snack wrappers that Tsunade promised to collect and throw away later as she sat splayed out watching the red skies.

'I must be getting old.'

Lately she had been frequenting such places where old people would usually go like tea houses and mahjong groups at the park clearing. She'd win sometimes and it would fill her with so much rush which was a direct result of gambling deprivation by Sakura and Shizune.

She didn't like staying with kids. It made her feel older.

And so, she decided to go shopping. Her lipstick was running out.

"I need a C45 shade. This one is too dark."

Tsunade seriously compared the hundreds of swatches on her wrist. The sales lady was almost close to committing treason by mauling the former Fifth Hokage.

At last she settled on one and left the shop pleased with a face full of a free makeover and a fuming saleslady behind her who was forced to use such distraction tactics for unpleasant customers.

"Hmm?"

She saw a troubled looking Kakashi walk by with Shikamaru trailing behind him.

'Must be something serious. Oh well, they'll handle it."

She was about to go on her merry way when out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of something white trailing behind them.

It floated by slowly and disappeared into mist.
