63 Coming clean
Help wasn’t coming, of that Aaron was sure. It appeared that Ethan’s relationship with Zara—which he’d claimed had been from childhood—wasn’t as strong as he’d thought. If it had been, Ethan would’ve rushed to help out.
However, Aaron realised that Ethan was an enigma, only swayed by his interests. If he wasn’t coming, nothing could persuade him otherwise. Hence, Aaron had found the next best thing to a weapon—a double-edged machete that the mansion had in large amount. Those blades were used as decorations and antiques, but they were sharp enough to cut through flesh and bones. That was enough to serve Aaron’s purpose.
He winced, the pain in his ribs and head flooding back again, threatening to drown him. He took sharp breaths till the pain subsided and stumbled along the hallway. The servants weren’t in the hallway and he wandered why that was. Had they succeeded in killing Zara?
