68 Regrets
Moving was difficult with Aaron’s weight pulling Zara back. Every step she took was dragged and it mounted a lot of pressure on her, drawing out the overdue fatigue. She felt so tired, but she knew she shouldn’t be. An endangered mouse knew better than to stop for a nap when the cat could be anyway around the corner.
She pulled Aaron with each step, not minding the blood that was soaking through her clothes. He was bleeding a lot and was quivering like he had a high fever. Zara wasn’t sure if he’d make it through the day. She wasn’t even sure if she could get him help. Her plan had been to get them to the other end of the secret passage and hope that no one would find them.
Eventually, when things calmed, she’d come out. However, as it stood now, it appeared to her that she might want to peer out into the bedroom. She could shove Aaron in there and hope that someone would find him.
