An unpleasant experience

We are taking a breather at what might be the central of this area. A fountain is spewing water all the time. People are here, talking to each other or just walking. Some are praying to the fountain and tossing in coins.

There are benches by the roadside. We sit on one such bench. It's morning. The sun isn't too hot yet. The sunshine feels good for that reason. Let's bask in the sunshine. The body needs its share of vitamin D as well.

Wait, speaking of biology, how does Aegis's body work? I never asked her. This question suddenly arose.

"Aegis, give me your hand."

She was a bit puzzled but she gave me her right hand. I hold her wrist and try to feel her pulse. It pulsating. Her veins are pulsating.

I send some inside of her body to get an idea of what's inside. It's basically a human body. No abnormalities whatsoever.

So I assume both Aegis and Aera are mimicking a human body. They can pass for a human. I can't see any abnormalities and things that might suggest otherwise.

I then hold her hand. The temperature is normal. It's soft and smaller compared to me.

I was busy in my observation so I hadn't noticed. Her face has turned red. Her ears are red. As fair as she is, the redness is apparent. Anyone can say that her face has become red.

"Sorry, I was just taking note of a few things."

"..Master, you need to give me a heads up at least. I'll get flustered if you suddenly hold my hand." (Aegis)

"Sorry about it. I just wanted to know something. But that's okay."

However, she didn't let go of my hand. We are sitting close to each, hands intertwined. The weather is good. People aren't looking. This could be pretty peaceful and I think romantic!

I am pretty inept in such subjects. Romance is still something I don't understand. I have time though. I can take one step forward and learn it slowly.

"Then how about we move on? Let's keep heading north."

We set out once again. There are bakeries, sweet's shop, grocery stores and many things. It's like a total market.

But I haven't seen a single transport. No vehicles whatsoever. I thought they had horse carriages or something.

I had done grocery shopping but it wasn't this place. I just bought stuff from a few shops which were adjacent to the guild. It wasn't a market but it was lively.

But this beats it. We did try to go in and take a look at everything. But knowing myself, I knew that I would end up spending my entire purse of money.

As Aegis is connected to me 24/7, she knows it also. That's why, we only went into shops that caught her interest. I wasn't particularly interested in anything since I had found someone who can provide me with everything.

Ms. Pablo is an interesting character. She gives off a rich widow who is also a businesswoman vibe. Why the accurate description? It is easier to imagine her that way.

She didn't seem older than my mother. Well, my mother did have me while she was in her early 20's. Maybe that's common. Can't say.

I was too busy in my monologuing. Aegis had already dragged me through 5 different shops while I was thinking. And to my surprise, I had even given her replies albeit simple ones.

When did I get an autopilot mode? Did I just manage to divide my consciousness into two and work independently?

The possibilities are really limitless. We walked through the road until we reached a drawbridge like thing. Can't say if it's actually a drawbridge or not.

I can see that castle clearly. The castle where I barged in rather suddenly. I did not understand how big that castle was back then. However, I do have to say, this is ridiculous.

Why would you have a castle that's one fourth of the entire Vatican City. I mean, it wasn't very big but it was still a sovereign country nonetheless.

This castle is ridiculously big and useless. Against me at least. It has some sort of barrier erected around which is paper thin in my eyes.

"Look Aegis, what would you give that barrier out of 10?"

"If you are talking about the large scale barrier, then considering the area and the effects, I would give it a solid 5." (Aegis)

"That's totally average, isn't it?"

"Yes. Although, it's quite impressive that they are covering a large area, the effectiveness of the barrier has become one third of its original. If it was smaller in size, it would be more effective." (Aegis)

"I think so too. But, the nobles are a bunch who leech off others. They need to stay alive even at the cost of their food. Since we have already reached the lake, why don't we head back?"

"Yes master. We should go back. I don't have anything else I want to see for now." (Aegis)

So we turn around and start walking. But what I hadn't noticed was that we were surrounded by soldiers.

Someone was waiting for me I guess. He was wearing a brass colored armor which had a coat of arms that looked different from the ones I remember.

He had a brown goatee and brown hair. His eyes were that of a sly fox. He had a lascivious smile on his face. He was even licking his lips while looking at Aegis.

A feeling welled up from within me. I look around. No pedestrians are present. Just a moment ago, there were at least a few people but now, it's deserted.

I search the area as well. I couldn't find anything.

"You there woman, come with me."

He pointed at Aegis and called her. Like she is some sort of object.

"If you have something to say, speak. Go ahead, I am listening."

Before he could do anything, I spoke. Take the initiative as they say. I released a tiny bit of my mana to scare him.

It seems to have worked. The soldiers are kinda shaken. Their grips on their spears have become uneasy. That goat, as he has a goatee, is looking a bit flustered as well.

He coughed and cleared his throat.

"Did you not hear me, I ordered you to come to me."

Were men always like this? Am I the odd one?

"It seems that you really don't under your position. What is the matter?"

I speak again. This is pretty hilarious that he has completely ignored my existence and continued looking at only Aegis.

I did release a little more mana than before but, I used my mana to control the gravity as well. I increased their weight so they would have hard time moving around.

That goat his fallen on the ground. His soldiers can not move due to their armors.

Aegis has ignored what he said. Helps that she is the one who is calm.

"Do you know who I am? Do you know who my father is?"

There it is. The typical influential spoiled brat.

"I don't care. Whoever you might be, understand one thing. She is off the list. Look at her once again like that and you are dead."

"What? How dare you? A nobody like you dare to threaten a barons's heir. I will have you flayed for this. I am Giles Hilton. Captain of the 3rd company of General Vindolf's regiment." (Giles)

He shouted while lying flat on his face. That was sight to behold. Still, this is quite the spectacle. I should just get it done with.

I used mana to tamper with their memories and showed them a horrific nightmare. I made sure that they would forget about me and Aegis after their nightmare is over.

I took Aegis and left the scene. However, it wasn't a very pleasant ending.
