Chapter 30: Roll in the Hay

The train of riders were being led by one of the hunters that had met them on the road to guide them the rest of the way.

Owen and William rode at the head of the long line of villagers riding through. Only the council members and guide were in front of them.

The short trip had grown quieter the closer they got to the farm. Owen could tell that the villagers were nervous, even as a big group.

He leaned over his horse so only William could hear. “As much as I hate to say this, I think my father had a good idea.”

“You mean having us come here for dinner,” William said, nodding towards the now-viewable homes.

“Yeah. I mean, look at them.” Owen gestured to the now silent villagers. “They live in fear every day, even before the rogue wolf incident. Maybe this will show them how unnecessary it is.”

William’s voice dropped to a quiet murmur, “You mean you aren’t scared at all?”
