Chapter 14: Maureen

VIVIAN’S POV

I had never met the kitchen staff of his house. I assumed that they had just eaten out all this time and never cooked a day in their lives, but I didn’t know Julian well enough. The only thing he had fed me was what he wanted me to know, and for some reason that hurt more.

A melodic hum came from the kitchen as I stepped foot inside. A curvy woman with greying hair danced as she thumbed through a cookbook. The book appeared to be vintage and handwritten, and I wondered if it had been handed down from generations before.

A gasp left her lips as she leaped in her spot, “Sorry, I wasn’t expecting you, bella.”

Maybe that was where he got that pet name from. I cleared my throat and gave her a smile, “No, I’m sorry. I scared you. I should have introduced myself. I’m Viv.”

“Maureen.” She walked over to kiss my cheeks in greeting with a kind smile. “I cook the meals and take care of the boy’s home.”
