The Human Queen

"Joshua," her sweet voice barely made it out. "What…what on earth happened to you?"

Crystal blue eyes glistened with worry after three whole days of being somewhere else completely.

We thought she was gone for good. And though the thought belonged to the demons occupying the darkest pits of hell, I was partially relieved that her suffering was over.

Apparently, more suffering awaited my tender queen.

I cursed our fates then smiled against myself, "My queen, how lovely it is to hear your voice,"

Calling it a voice was a crime, it was a melody. It was what had the king falling for her in the first place.

Her lip curled down the way it does when something bothered her deeply. "Your hair… tell me what happened to your long black hair that looked so much like mine?" She tried to carry the weight of her body and prop herself on her elbows but failed miserably. Her eyes never left my short fully white hair for a second.

Her reaction made me happy.
