Merry had been in Mrs. Miller's office quite a number of times till now. It had made Merry somehow lower her guard.
It was not like she had started trusting Mrs. Miller, but she had become more comfortable talking to her.
She would freely talk about her being incapable of having any superpowers like her friends and her feelings around that. She would talk about her paintings.
In one of Merry's visit to Mrs. Miller, they had an unusual talk.
Mrs. Miller most of the times used to only listen to Merry and throw few questions here and there. And, if Merry had questions, she used to answer her.
Obviously, Merry didn't know if all the things Mrs. Miller had said were true or not. She could only listen and try to decipher.
In that particular session, Mrs. Miller asked Merry, "What was the last memory you had when you decided to stop taking those pills?" as soon as she entered Mrs. Miller's office.
As usual, Merry was going to sit in the couch of Mrs. Miller's office which was closest to the door through which she had just entered.
But, the moment Merry heard those words from Mrs. Miller, she was stunned. She sort of became immobile like a statue because of fear.
Her heart was raging against her rib cage. Her heartbeat was so loud in her ears, she feared it would give her away.
For a second, her mind was complete blank but soon after her head was filled with racing thoughts.
'She knows? How did she know? Why was she silent about this for so long?'
'What are her intentions behind acting like nothing happened?'
'She couldn't care less about such minor thing like us not taking the given medicine. What a joke? We all felt like we had done something... something to resist against them but it looks like it was all futile.'
'They had known everything all along but didn't do anything. What could it possibly mean? They probably thought, just few kids, what could they do even if they know some truths.'
"Merry!" Mrs. Miller tried to get her attention.
"Yes!" Merry replied coming out of her stance.
"What are you thinking? Come on, take a seat."
Merry tried not to show how scared she was, she just took a deep breath and walked towards the couch.
She wanted to ask Mrs. Miller, since when she had known that they were not taking any pills but, after a little thought she too decided not to act like anything happened.
Mrs. Miller soon spoke,"So, I was asking what is your last memory before you decided not to take those pills?"
Merry tried hard not to show any emotions on her face. She nonchalantly replied,"The last thing that I remember is just me in that previous room before stopping to take those pills. But, why are you asking that?"
"Oh, it's nothing special. I just wanted to know," Mrs. Miller said with a smile.
"Are those pills somehow related to my memories?" Merry asked curiously as if she didn't know that fact.
