Pain

They exchanged greetings and talked a bit, mostly the older women talking about how nice the place looked.

"Sir, I'll go settle them down in their rooms now," Priscal said and pulled the fat woman and the others away after Fablo's nod of acknowledgment.

"I'll also go rest for a bit, I'm quite tired," Edward said from behind Fablo and easily slipped away, leaving Fablo speechless.

'You, tired? Is that the new joke or trend amongst youngsters these days?' Fablo said in his thoughts but did not try to stop Edward, he went over to meet old Martin and White Fang since he had something to discuss with the latter.

"Yo, Fablo, you're back," white Fang said immediately after Fablo got close enough.

"Yeah, I see you guys are working hard"

Fablo responded.

" They are…."

While they chatted with each other on the down floor, Edward hurriedly made his way to his room that was on the third floor. He ignored everyone he met along the way and dashed straight into his room.

Bam!!

Edward slammed the door shut immediately after entering his room and locked the door from inside, he had only moved a bit from the door when he suddenly arched his back and placed both palms on his face as if trying to pick his eyes out.

" Uggghhh!"

A muffled growl escaped Edward's mouth as he gritted his teeth with so much strength that they threatened to shatter, he was in so much pain that he felt like going crazy.

His eyes were hurting so much and itching at the same time that he wanted to pull them out so badly but all he could do was gnash his teeth and stop any screams from coming at as it would be bad if he alerted the others.

'What–is–this–feeling!! Arrrggg, it's…killing me!' Edward managed to make a complete sentence in his thought as the pain from his eyes increased, it was driving him crazy.

If one had come inside Edward's room at this time, one would see the sight of Alex's eyes switching between blood red and emerald green at a fast speed.

Edward had lost sense of time completely and did not know how much time had passed, all he knew was that this pain had tortured him for what seemed like an eternity.

He had scratched his face to the point of his bones showing during the time he was experiencing the hellish pain but his healing ability seemed to be on overdrive and healed him up instantly.

Edward had lost consciousness at some point as he sprawled carelessly on the ground, all around him was covered in green blood and his clothes were not spared either.

Edward woke up after an unknown amount of time had passed, his mind was hazy as he tried to remember what led him to this situation. His mind instantly registered what had happened upon seeing the green blood stains in his room and soaked clothes, a look of fear appeared in his eyes as his heart began to beat faster. It took him a while to calm down after his brain finally registered that he could no longer feel the hellish feeling in his eyes and he could now construct complete and sensible thoughts in his mind.

"What…was that??" Edward mumbled to himself as he slowly touched his face and ran his fingers around his eyes but could not feel any different. He decided he would have to look for a mirror to check if there was any change in his eyes.

He looked towards the door and found out that it was still locked just as he remembered.

"Thankfully, no one came in. I would have been in trouble" Edward sighed as he stood up from the ground and began to clean his room but he could not just get the feeling of fear from his mind whenever he remembered how much pain he was in before fainting.

"How long did I spend here? Did anyone come to look for me when I was unconscious?" Edward asked himself after finally cleaning his room and changing into different clothes.

Edward left the room to go meet the others, he was shocked to find out that it was already nighttime and most of the people had already gone to sleep.

"Damnit, did I miss dinner?" Edward cursed as he walked to the down floor.

He found Fablo and a few other people there, they were still up and seemed to be talking about something.

"Oh Edward, there you are! What were you doing in your room all this time? I came to look for you at dinner time but you refused to open up" Fablo said immediately after he spotted Edward.

"Umm, I kinda overslept," Edward replied with an awkward smile on his face.

Fablo stared at Edward for a few seconds thinking something must be up with him but decided to ask later when they were alone, he shook his head and let out a sigh.

"Luckily, we managed to keep a share for you. Go look for Priscal, she will give you your share of dinner" Fablo said and returned to what he was discussing with the others.

Edward's eyes lit up and he nodded in appreciation before going to look for Priscal.

The day passed just like that.

The next day was the same, nothing uneventful happened except the people who were on patrol using the modified trucks encountered some stray zombies at the edge of the fence but easily dealt with them.

Although it was winter and everywhere was cold, Fablo and white Fang did not want to take chances. There would always be people outside on patrol using the modified trucks, the people would also change turns at regular intervals.

In the rest of winter, the group had made much progress in improving their base, various buildings were marked as guard checkpoints where the people on patrol could spend most time instead of driving all the time and wasting the batteries of the cars.

With the help of the engineers and mechanics, they managed to create a proper charging point for the batteries and restored the power supplies of most buildings that had lost theirs.

In fact, by the time the winter season came to an end, the place had gone through a stunning transformation and looked exactly like how it had been four years ago before the zombie outbreak. Only that the people were few and always armed for battle.
