Moonlight's POV
It was mid-afternoon when I sensed something creeping around us. It was unnerving, yet I wanted to be near it. I was talking to my older brother Sun when I suddenly felt a presence behind me in the woods.
"What's wrong, Moon?" asked Sun, noticing my change in demeanor from relaxed to tense.
"I don't know. Something seems off."
I cautiously turned around and a sweet vanilla and pine aroma filled my senses. Star, my wolf knew exactly what it meant.
'Mate,' she said excitedly.
I was shocked.
"Sis?" Sun asked cautiously.
Just as he reached out to touch my shoulder, a low growl rang out. We both whipped our heads toward the source of the growl, to find a well-built man glaring at my brother.
"Who are you?!" Sun growled, standing protectively in front of me.
"Stop it! I can protect myself!" I said, mad he was still protecting me like I was a kid.
Sun never made a move away from me.
"Ugh!" I grabbed my brother's shoulder and pushed him out of the way. Just as I was about to step forward, I was thrown to the wall.
"Ow! What the-," is all I could say before a pair of lips pressed hard against mine. Electricity flowed through my body. I shoved the mystery man away, my eyes turning red.
'You okay, Sun?' I mind-linked him to no avail.
I looked over at my brother and saw him glaring daggers at the mystery man. His eyes went from red to yellow, meaning his wolf had taken over. Before he could shift, I went over to him and pinched him between the shoulder and neck. He fell to the ground, unconscious.
'He's behind you. Watch out,' Star growled.
I stood up and cautiously turned to face him.
"Can I help you?" I asked, anger lacing my voice.
"You know why I am here," the mystery man replied.
'I don't like this one bit, Moon. Don't trust him,' Star said.
The mystery man made move to step forward but before he could, I pushed him to the wall. Just as he was about to speak, Sun came to.
"What the hell, Moon?!" he yelled.
"Oh get over it!" I yelled back, "And don't even think about shifting."
He just glared at me as I mind linked him.
'Do you know who this is?'
'No idea. What are we gonna do with him? You can't stand there all day.'
I cut the link off, just in time to realize the mystery man had pinned me against the wall.
"That is no way to treat your mate, now is it," he said with a smirk on his face.
"Mate?!" Sun yelled.
'You didn't tell me that, Moon!'
'I don't need a mate!'
I pushed the mystery man off me and ran to the back of the house. I knew the man was following, so I stopped just before I reached the yard.
"Why are you following me?!" I said in his direction.
"We're mates. I am supposed to protect you," he said calmly, his aura intimidating.
That is when I knew who he was. Alpha Alex from the Lightning clan. They are called that because they're unpredictable and untrackable. We had met once at a mandatory pack meeting, where all packs in the US had to meet. Being the daughter of an alpha, we had to attend.
Alex was there in a swarm of females, all trying to woo him. It was disgusting to witness and he seemed to like it. What a Jerk. I frown at the memory.
"Alex," I growled.
"Ah, so you do remember me, Moon."
I glared in his direction.
"I don't need a mate, Alex. Let alone a mate, like you." I yelled in his direction as I shifted.
Then I ran off into the forest, ignoring his protests. I couldn't stand the fact that we were put together. What was the Mood goddess thinking?
