Marcia did not like that the King had made her wait. She was supposed to meet with him yesterday, but he did not accept her unexpected visit. Although she knew she should have made an appointment and not just dropped by unannounced. 

She thought King Charles would be receptive to her presence. Now, she wondered if the King still needed her as an ally. Truthfully, it was an insult on her part to be ignored and disrespected in such a way.

However, like it or not, she still needed the King in her plans. So, she had no choice but to lower her pride, swallow it even, and face the King with humility if she still wanted his assistance.

"Ms. Marcia, the King would see you now." One of the guards ushered her to follow him into the throne room.

Usually, the King saw her in his office. She wondered why she stood in the vast space beneath the steps of the throne of the King. Was the King implying something by putting her in a disadvantageous position?
