"Avilyn... do you know the reason why the wives of the king are not seen—even their children?"
Avilyn cocked her head to the side, furrowing her brows as she answered her. "Well... it's because they now serve the king and the identity of his family is to be held secret, right?"
"Well, yes," Kiana said, nodding her head slowly. "That is indeed what the king has ordered to his close people so they could hide the truth."
"The truth?"
"Avilyn..."
Kiana now held both of her hands, what she said next making Avilyn's body cold as she felt shivers run down her spine.
"Once the wife gives birth, she is to be killed and the children are to be offered to the great tree for our runes."
Avilyn fell silent. She didn't know whether to believe that her best friend had said. But knowing that Kiana will never lie and she knew that fact ever since they were children, Avilyn knew that her best friend is telling her the truth.
