Chapter 18: Rotarr(Updated version)

With a loud thud, Jason's body hit the ground, and he closed his eyes, but the smile remained on his face, and he showed no signs of movement.

Blink! Blink!

After struggling for a few seconds, Jason finally opened his eyes and found himself lying on a bed made of leaves.

Quickly getting up, Jason looked around to confirm his location. For a moment, he couldn't believe what he saw and thought he was dreaming.

"Ouch!" Jason pinched himself to confirm that he wasn't dreaming and found himself a few meters away from the place where he fought with the wolf.

"How the hell did I not die, and where are Lily and that wolf?" Jason wondered.

Before he could think any further, a voice brought him out of his thoughts.

"So, you're up. Come sit here."

Jason saw a cheerful man with deep-set blue eyes that were like two drops of water. He had fine, straight, ice-blue hair worn in a style that reminded you of a flowing stream. He had a graceful build with skin as white as it could be, with an upturned nose. He was wearing a long coat with a mostly blue and white colour scheme.

Seeing an unknown person, Jason quickly took his fighting stance, ready to fight if necessary.

"Don't be on alert; nobody will hurt you," the man said.

"Who the hell are you?" Jason asked while still on alert.

"Oh, now you'll be able to recognize me," the man said, suddenly changing into the wolf that Jason had been fighting before and then changing back into his human form.

Watching the sudden change in appearance, Jason was shocked for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure. Whatever had happened to him was not normal at all.

"I know you have many questions. Come sit here, and I'll answer them, as I promised earlier," the man, who now called himself Rotarr, said.

At first, Jason hesitated to sit beside him, few moments ago he is fighting for his life and now the same person wants him to sit beside him.

He also has no idea what is going on with a person changing into a wolf and a wolf changing into a man. He for a moment thinks he was dreaming but after hearing his voice he is certain that he is not dreaming.

Finally, after some up-down thoughts through his head, he finally decided to sit beside him, also he didn't have a choice if he wanted Jason to die then he will die without even realising.

Jason went toward Rotarr and sat beside him without saying anything, but he didn't try to do anything funny that might create more problems for him.

They sat there without talking for a few minutes until Rotarr broke the awkward silence.

"You know we don't have to sit here like this, so I suggest that if you want to know something, ask quickly," Rotarr said.

Jason took a deep breath to calm his racing thoughts.

"Where is Lily?" Jason finally asked.

"There's nobody here except you and me from the moment you arrived here," Rotarr said.

Jason was shocked to hear Rotarr's words, and he became angry, standing in front of Rotarr.

"The f@#$, why are you lying in front of me?" Jason said.

"Jason, sit down," Rotarr said in an ordering tone.

Jason sat back down almost as if his body was not in his control.

"Let me ask you this: have you seen Lily properly? Did she say anything else besides your name, or did you see the wolf that you killed while we were fighting?" Rotarr asked.

Jason was still angry, but when he tried to remember, he realized that Rotarr's words seemed real.

"But how?" Jason asked.

"Jason, you have to face reality," Rotarr said.

"But I still don't believe it. How is it possible? I saw her with my own eyes," Jason said.

"Let me clarify it for you. Just be still," Rotarr said, touching Jason's forehead with his ring finger.

Jason didn't do anything and let Rotarr do what he wanted.

A minute later, Rotarr let go of Jason's forehead and brought his hand back.

"So now you understand," Rotarr said.

Jason nodded his head as he finally understood the situation he was in. Rotarr had sent all the information directly into his head.

He finally gets to know that Except for him and Rotarr, all the other things he saw are an illusion which was created by the mysterious letters on the wall.

{Author note- The letters are the same letters that they saw engraved on the wall of the cave}

He also came to know that if Rotarr hadn't appeared to help him, he would have already died and he was teleported to some sort of trial.

What shocked him the most among all the information was that Rotarr actually had the same power level as him, but even with that, he was not even 1% of him if Rotarr decided to use his full power.

He was grateful towards him for saving his life. Still, he had a lot of questions which he started to ask one by one.

"What are you?" Jason asked as he didn't understand a single bit about Rotarr who was sitting beside him.

"I can't give you answers to this question, but I will not harm you. That's what you had to know," Rotarr replied.

"So, if I am in a trial, does that mean all the other members of my team are also in a similar situation as me?"

"No, it only happened to you because you fulfill the criteria to participate in the trial, so only you are in this situation," Rotarr replied.

Listening to that somewhat relieved him.

"Then, where are my other team members, and are all of them safe?" Jason asked.

"They are inside the cave, and till now, no one was in danger," Rotarr replied.

Jason then asked the question he was most curious about.

"Who are you, and why are you helping me?"

"Think of me as an envoy of someone, and if destiny wants, you will meet him soon."

"And why I am helping you is because you passed the test," Rotarr replied.

"If I failed to pass the test, what would have happened then?" Jason asked.

"You would have died, and your soul would forever roam in this place for eternity," Rotarr replied.

Listening to that, a chill ran down Jason's spine, and he didn't get the courage to ask further about that, so he changed the question.

"How did you manage to save me?" Jason asked this to clear the doubt he had. As per his knowledge, once anyone uses that skill, their death is fixed, but he was alive and well.

"What you are thinking is half correct, as if you use it anywhere else, you would have died even before you were able to activate the skill."

"But here, due to the high amount of mana, you can use it, and the backlash is not even that much, so using my power, I was able to save you," Rotarr replied.

Jason nodded after understanding the reason, then he proceeded to ask another question. "Who is the person you are an envoy of?"

"Sorry, I can't tell you this. It's way above your pay grade, so I suggest you never ask or mention it," Rotarr said with a serious expression, almost as if warning Jason from doing so.

"So, what now?" Jason asked as he finally didn't have any questions in his mind.

"Now you finally come to the main topic."

"Listen carefully," Rotarr said as his expression finally turned serious.
