Chapter 23: First step Inside the Door
"We are fu*&^%" For the first time since they had stepped on this planet, Bhim lost his composure.
Then he tried to backtrack to see if he could find the door from where he entered, but the result was as expected. Even after 10 minutes, he didn't find anything.
Then, without having any other choice, he finally decided to go forward to watch what the future holds for him.
POV shifted back to Jason.
"Shi*! I still didn't find anything, even after searching almost all the areas," Jason thought as he was soaked in sweat from top to bottom, running continuously for more than 20 minutes at his top speed.
"There is no time for rest, Jason. You have to find them as soon as you can," Jason said, then started running again.
"Mother fudger, another dead end. Get control of yourself, Jason. This is not the time for this," Jason said, controlling his anger as the more time he spent, the less time he would have to stop the monster.
Just as Jason was about to backtrack, he noticed some chip marks on the wall of one side of the cliff, and the marks seemed fresh. He decided to go near the cliff to check what caused them.
When he got near the cliff and looked down, he finally got his answer as to why he couldn't find his teammates.
"So, this must be the door that Rotarr mentioned, but it didn't have the flames on it, as he said. Hmmmm."
"It must have been extinguished when it was opened," Jason thought when he saw the big door for the first time.
He was not shocked, as today, he already saw much weirder things than this, and he already knew about the door as it was mentioned by Rotarr. So, for him, there were not many things left to get shocked about, but he still felt amazed after watching this amazing piece of work.
But now comes the main problem. He didn't have any tools that he could use to get down there, and if he tried to jump to this height, he knew that he would not die, but he would at least break half of his bones.
After eliminating both options, he was only left with one choice, even if he didn't want to do it, but he had to do it as he didn't have a choice.
"Let's do this," Jason said. He started to climb down with his bare hands, which would be impossible even for a rank 8 traveler due to the cliff being made out of Larinium metal, one of the strongest metals.
Jason was only able to do this due to the current power he had in him, or else he would not even think about doing it.
After a few minutes of struggle, Jason finally reached the bottom and was currently standing in front of the door.
"Rotarr said that this used to be a trial ground, and once anyone enters this place, they can't come out until they either complete the trial or get to the end stage."
"The same place where the core and the teleporting device are placed, also where I have to find the monster and have to kill him before he succeeds in his plan."
So, for Jason, this was the biggest challenge for him as he was only a step away from it.
He knows that if he quits right now, no one will blame him for whatever happens, as no one will know that he already knows about this.
But he also knows that even if no one will ever find out, he will never be able to forgive himself or become the same person he is now.
"Forgive me, Tiffany. I hope you can forgive me and find someone who will take care of you and never hide anything from you," Jason said as he looked towards the photo of his wife. Then he made his choice and stepped both feet inside the door.
As soon as he entered, the surroundings turned dark and the door disappeared, just as Rotarr had warned him.
Without caring about direction, Jason walked straight, knowing that he only had to keep going to reach his destination.
After 5 minutes of walking, Jason started to notice the first sign of light in front of him.
He didn't increase his speed, knowing that even if people could run faster than light, he would still take the same amount of time as someone walking with a normal speed.
This kind of place drained energy from trial participants, and this was just the first trial.
How a place like this could exist, Jason didn't know, as Rotarr had refused to answer his questions. He didn't want to know anymore, as his mind was already overloaded with pressure.
Two minutes later, he finally emerged from the dark tunnel and stood in an open field with the sun above his head. It was fascinating, but Jason ignored it, as he was not a researcher.
Without wasting any time, he continued his journey through the field. But his peace was short-lived, as a group of monsters suddenly attacked him. They were green, short, and humanoid, with ugly faces and muscular bodies. Jason identified them as goblins.
"They're not as ugly as they were shown in the movies," Jason commented, looking at the goblins for the first time in his life. He didn't show any signs of fear, as the goblins were weaker than him. Even if 50 of them surrounded him at once, he could easily kill them all, as they were only Rank 2, and he was a Rank 10.
"So, are you guys going to attack or just stand there?" Jason asked.
Almost as if they understood him, the goblins attacked him at once.
"You guys will be my test subjects for me to try my new power," Jason said, countering the goblin's attack with just his bare hands. He wanted to get used to his new power.
He aimed his punch at the first goblin that was close to him and delivered a punch, but his fist busted through the body of the goblin as it lay limp. He used his punch on all of the goblins, while changing the amount of power he used.
After killing all the goblins, their bodies turned into dust and vanished into the air. Jason realized that he had an interesting new ability.
He could now kill a Rank 2 monster with just his bare hands, while only using 1% of his powers.
He had been foolish to think that he could defeat a Rank 10 monster while being a Rank 7. Even if he used all his tricks, it would be nothing in front of sheer power. All things became clear to him when he felt his strength as a Rank 10.
